Circo Massimo

Southern Roma, is better known as the Aventine and Lateran Hills. Made up mostly of parks of green grass rather than stone streets, this section is home to the Circo Massimo, easily accessible from the metro station, right next to the station is the Terme di Caracalla. The churches in this area are very spread out, if you are going to visit any of them make sure one is San Giovanni in Laterno, founded by the Emperor Constantine, the first Christian Emperor.

Via Appia

If you have the opportunity to reach Roma’s outskirts there are a few things to stop and see. To the north is the Villa Borghese, Roma’s largest gardens and the Museo Borghese, at one time the greatest art collection around. To the south is the picturesque Via Appia Antica, Rome’s most important historic road since 300 B.C. Along Via Appia Antica are the Catacombs of San Callisto and San Sebastiano.
