Cosenza & River
Busento |
Historyhas
generally viewed Cosenza as one of Calabria’s chief
towns. In Medieval times this was a rather busy place.
There had been many battles over the control of such
a city. It had been under the control of the Arabs
on two separate occasions. But now it is little more
then a town which doesn’t get much tourist attraction.
The River Busento neatly divides Cosenza. The river
is famous in past history do to the burying of a rather
prominent Roman general in the 400’s.
For all its history though, Cosenza
has little to show, since no place is more prone to
earthquakes, 4 in the last 200 years. It does however
have a Cathedral, which has been restored over and
over and is the home of some famous tombs. There is
also a nice Museo Civico with nice paintings and archeological
finds.
